Song Review: TRENDZ – On My Knees

Since 2024, TRENDZ have occupied a rare space in Bias List history. They’re one of the few acts to earn a top 5 place in a year-end countdown only to never grace those charts again. As is often the case for groups from smaller agencies, their success is entirely dependent on who they collaborate with, and it’s hard to beat a banging Brave Brothers produced track. But for the first time in years, they’re back on the right track with new single On My Knees.

In an interview, the guys mentioned that they were targeting 2nd and 3rd generation sounds with this title track. Unsurprisingly, that’s music to my ears. Please, bring us back to an era where songs were longer than three minutes, had melodic choruses and felt like more than chanted catchphrases! I’m not sure On My Knees competes with the best of those past hits, but it’s certainly a refreshing standout to this year’s trends.

The song blends effusive, emotional melodies with thumping percussion and dramatic guitar. It’s got the angsty drive that powered so many past boy group classics. This sense of yearning is such a satisfying and dynamic base for a pop song and communicates so many more feelings than a simple “I’m so cool, I’m so badass” hype track. Importantly, On My Knees is built around an incredibly catchy chorus. The arrangement here feels a bit soft for such a solid centerpiece, but I’m happy to hear the hook each time it comes around. Better yet is the track’s extended bridge, which pulls us down right before rebounding with an explosive power note. It’s this kind of set-up/payoff that falls victim to truncated song structures and it’s always nice to hear it make a return.
